Tough love time. |
...Including lackluster, lazy and defeatist.
Ouch? Tough.
Here's the good and bad news:
The most powerful tool you have in failing or succeeding in any life endeavor? You.
As you may know, the Four Fat Burnin' babes and I have a private online page where we post, converse, share, etc. Here's a look at our expanded Day 9 Kick Fat in the Ass Challenge morning thoughts:
Day 9! The Most Powerful Tool in the Arsenal? You.
Ultimately, success at anything -- including achieving your best health -- comes down to You. Your choices, perspectives, and attitude.
RECOVERY TIME
When I was an athlete in college, I remember our team sports psychologist talking to us about "recovery time." When you drop the ball, make an error, and/or the odds have shifted momentarily out of your favor, what do you do?
- Do you increase the odds of failure by wasting time beating yourself up?
- Throw your hands in the air?
- Allow others to take advantage of your error and pounce on it for their gain?
- Throw a pity party? Pout?
- Blame someone else for your situation?
This reveals a lot about core character.
Or, when a mistake is made do you shake it off? Do you immediately create or embark on finding a new way to win?
What's your recovery time when an obstacle (mental or otherwise) gets you in its grasp? Because it happens. Do you use it as a lesson learned or the excuse you've been looking for to quit? To join the majority who are all talk with nothing to show. Can you summon the courage to ask for help?
How long does it take you to notice and silence the defeatist narrator in your mind and override it with uplifting affirmations?
It's healthy and appropriate to lean on friends for advice and strength. There are bad days. Sometimes bad years. But how do you handle it? By constant complaining, whining, blaming, neediness, desperation, and spewing of negative beliefs? Because I promise if that's you, you're draining and repelling those around you--- whether they're consciously aware of it or not. High maintenance is a low energy frequency. People who tune to higher calibers will not come anywhere near your energy.
I'm not talking about events like illness, injury, tragedy, and other acts of who you believe the Almighty to be (or not to be). These huge, unavoidable occurrences are usually not the things dimming our day-to-day light and drive into stagnation. It's ourselves and our choice of actions and thoughts at every moment.
PERSPECTIVE.
Are you focused on current obstacles or the unlimited possibilities and potential behind the hard work you're doing? Do you see things as an uphill battle or an opportunity to push yourself beyond what you ever imagined?
We cannot fathom the potential that lies within when quitting on ourselves is not an option.
ATTITUDE.
Part of being a success is learning to get good at failing. What makes losing shameful? Losing and learning nothing from it.
Who wants to be around anyone that stays down when knocked down? Although if I was
in the cage with Ronda Rousey, I'd probably stay down.
I'd work on my possum skills here.
Defeatist attitudes are contagious, easy and a neon-flashing sign of mediocrity.
The unchallenged woman remains juvenile.
Be courageous in your willingness to take new avenues. As Tara Brach says: go to your edges, then soften.
Be your #1 fan.
Your own best agent. Advocate for nothing but the best for your highest self through conscious choice making. Every single thing we say and do has a cause and effect in the universe from the macro to the micro. What are you repelling and attracting in your life? You can be dynamic or despairing but you can't be both.

It's pretty simple: if you have nothing nice to say... you know the rest. Manners and politeness still count even when we're tucked safely away behind our screens. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts and questions!
